The great Miley debate

Miley Cyrus was once Disney's little princess with her golden ringlets, bootcut jeans and sparkly scarves that screamed "Hey! I'm accessorising! I'm grown up now!" in tow. But in 2013, Hannah Montana, sorry, Miley couldn't be any more different. And I like it. I like her. I like her rock 'n' roll hair, her collect of cat suits, her red lipstick, her leather shorts and her bum cheeks all over V Magazine.

At first, her transformation was almost cliché. It was good-girl-gone-bad Britney style, from innocent Jesus lover to full-blown hot mess. Yawn. But Miley thankfully missed out the 'going a bit mental' part (she may have shaved her head, but for the purpose of a stylish new do, not a cry for help), instead just having a lot of fun the same way most 18-year-olds do. And if that includes getting drunk, dyeing your hair crazy colours and swapping your ballet pumps for Dr Martens then I'd say she's actually pretty normal (I've done A LOT worse).

However, tha haterrzzz gotta chime in, branding her a bit too try-hard, desperate to remain famous, and frankly, a little bit embarrassing. But d/w Miley, I'm on your team girl. The Climb was a brilliant song. You're engaged to Liam Hemsworth. YOUR DAD SANG ACHY BREAKY HEART. Can't nobody say you ain't got #swag.

A quick review: The Great Gatsby - in gifs!

On Friday night I went with a few pals to see The Great Gatsby in 3D, and BOY did I enjoy it. I was obsessed with the book beforehand and the film made my love for Fitzgerald's story grow even deeper.

This adaptation was classy, modern and felt genuine from start to finish. Sometimes retro productions can look a little too try-hard, but everything in the film felt perfectly placed, from the characters to the costumes to the cars.

And so, rather than bore you by professing my love for the film in words, here's why Baz Luhrman's Gatsby is actually a very good film, through the medium of gifs. Enjoy.

Everyone said it was all flashy and dancey, with little depth.

Yes, there were lots of elaborate parties, glitter and champagne, but shit got deep, regularly.

And for those who said that it wasn't close enough to the book, could it get much more literal than this?

“The windows were ajar and gleaming white against the fresh grass outside that seemed to grow a little way into the house. A breeze blew through the room, blew curtains in at one end and out the other like pale flags, twisting them up toward the frosted wedding-cake of the ceiling, and then rippled over the wine-coloured rug, making a shadow on it as wind does on the sea.” F. Scott Fitzgerald
Suck on that bitches.

Moving on... Carey Mulligan was unexpectedly brilliant. Perfect casting for Daisy. Flawless accent, flawless angsty facial expressions.

And then there was Leo.

Leo.

Oh Leo.

Together, they played a brilliant and convincing couple, both equally beautiful and equally selfish.

And of course, Gatsby says "old sport" a lot, finally bringing to life those two words in an American/European accent we could never quite imagine in the book. Thanks Leo!

And the scenery was just brilliant, all perfectly envisioned in true Luhrman style.

That's Gatsby's mansion btw.

AND DA GREEN LIGHT. Didn't forget that one did they?

Overall, it was spectacular. Opulent. Exciting. Tragic. Sad. Intense. Hilarious. And of course, great. Great great great.

Chic or sh*t?: Single sole heels

World, I have a problem. I used to love heels - the big chunky platform type that were super comfy - but now, since the return of single soled shoes, I'm struggling to feel stable in a pair of skyscrapers.

Coral Cage Heels, Primark, £12 - Image via Look

Yes, they look cool. Rihanna werks them with swag like no other. Worn with boyfriend jeans they look haaawwwt in a low-effort way, unlike platform heels, which do give the impression that you're trying hard be a sexy laddyyy. But the numerous pair of single sole, thin-heeled shoes I've tried on have just left me feeling a bit wobbly, like the heel is going to snap at any moment. This may be because I've mainly tried Primark's budget efforts, or maybe because I'm a block heel girl at heart.

However, as a lover of the 1990s, I can't deny the appeal of a pair of delicately formed, thin-heeled and brightly coloured heels, that just scream out to my inner Clueless fan. AS IF!

What do you think? Are single soled heels back for good? Let me know!
